Research into ~ Different Types Of Music Videos

Mainly there are 3 types of music videos :

~ Performance Music Video

~ Narrative Music video

~ Concept Music video

Starting off with the first one.

Performance Music Video :

This Type is exactly what it sounds like. It's the artist performing the song for the camera, but it does not have to simple, the artist could be isolated / with people, maybe performing the song in front of a crowd.

In these videos they are performing the song hence these are performance music videos.

Narrative Music video :

Just like before, the name suggests that these music videos narrate a story, the director can tell any story through a music video. These music videos have a beginning, a middle and a proper end for the story. The video stories can be as clear or vague as the director wants them to be.

Here's two examples.

In Marshmello's music video, the director tell a proper story with a conclusion, this video is clear and the story is easily understandable.

On the other hand Alan walker's music video is a little bit vague as at no point you can figure out exactly what is happening in the music video.

Concept music videos :

This type of music video is used when the director wants to give the music video an artistic expression. There is some kind of an idea or a theme that drives the whole concept in the music video. Narrative videos are close to concept videos but they are not the same. Concept music videos carry a specific topic and go along with it.

Here are some examples :

This is a video that is focused around the idea of suicide, it can be classified as a concept music video.

This Music video is more of a vague concept video. It has a lot of random filler shots and it can not be classified as a narrative because it does not have a basic story line.
