COURSEWORK DEVELOPMENT

Production: Shoot Day 1

So after all the elements of pre-production were finished, we went to the first location. The first location we went to was CAZ (Classic Auto Zone). It was a workshop in a lush area of Lahore and we had to do two things, Interview the owner of the place as well as take lots of filler shots of children working in the workshop. We went over there at around 2pm, We wanted the shoot to start when there was ample lighting in the room that the interview had to be shot in, due to traffic, we got late and got there at 4pm, we had to create a well lit environment for our Digital SLR cameras to shoot without grain. We set up our lighting and got the owner on board to give us an interview. I set both the cameras up, one facing me and the other one facing the owner of the store. I also set up the shotgun microphone to record the ambiance as well as our voices. My phone was used for the filler shots. Here is the behind the scenes of this interview.

Production: Shoot Day 2

After the first day was over, we compiled the footage from the first day into a folder named as day 1, we charged all our batteries and the4 next day, I took an appointment with a Government school's principal to interview him regarding children education and child labor, I got to know that there was a VAT Training institute inside of the institute so we decided to go there. We went there, setup all the lighting and equipment for the shoot, set-up microphones, cameras and phone cameras to record behind the scenes. We got a lot of information from Mr. Ehsan Ul Haq and we asked him questions according the the script. After the shoot we got to visit the VAT institute and took fillers from it. We got a lot of useful content from this day. Here are the behind the scenes of that day.

Production: Shoot Day 3

After shooting the other two days successfully, we moved on towards the third day of the shoot. today we had to interview a sociologist. We setup cameras and microphones in his office and we decided to shoot there, after setting up all the lights, we called him in and I interviewed him. I asked him questions about the sociological aspects of child labor and technical education. We got a good amount of content from this shoot and after the interview, we went to the nearest workshop to take some filer shots for our documentary. Since the production was done, I had to get to editing now. Here is a video of the setup we made to shoot the last interview.

EDITING

After the shoot, we had to get the footage together so that I can edit conveniently. At first the footage was just a mess. I spent about 5 hours getting the footage from this mess.

First Cut

After countless hours of procrastinating, I decided to edit but I had no idea where and how to start. I tried to edit it from the beginning but that did not work out. I decided to just edit one of the many interviews I had recorded. It took me around 4 hours to sync up all the audio and video sources and I finally edited one of the sequences. After that I edited all of the sequences and came up with this final material for the compilation.

After that it got considerably easy for me to edit the first cut of the video. I spent a lot of time and I came up with a sequence that was 16 minutes long. I decided to send it to my friends for a review.

Feedback from target audience

I sent to documentary to some people asking for their opinions, There was only one major response I got, that was that the duration of it is too long.

I decided to cut it down for the final cut.

FINAL CUT

After receiving reviews about it, I edited again and came up with another sequence. This came to be about 5 minutes in duration, I figured this might be the final documentary and made a thumbnail in photoshop, also exported the video.

This was the final cut. Here is some Behind the scenes of the editing as I was screen recording.
