Final Script

This is the final script that was written after many meetings and thinking about it a lot.

Child labor : Another perspective

Scene 1 :

Extreme long shot (Workshop Markets, Lahore )

Commentary

Details : Commentary. This is Lahore, Capital of Punjab, The biggest province of Pakistan, The city has a population of () and is called the land of opportunity for the people living around the province. Most of the population comprises those daily wagers who are earning their living through very hard work. When you move around the city, you find many places where young boys are either working in workshops or serving in different small restaurants. These are the boys who ideally should have been in schools during these hours, but the bitter reality is that people have realized that even if they educate their children, Their children would not find a respectable place in society because of unemployment and lack of opportunity in third world countries. They believe that by sending their children to workshops at a young age, they make them learn to live in reality and face the potential odds which await them in coming times. There is no doubt that education enlightens a person and therefore enlightens the society But we can not ignore the fact that self made people have to face the real world after entering a certain phase in life where they find that they never learnt to face life. The teachers who teach in real life are different, the person finds that the life outside of school is unfair, tough and cruel. Why not learn realities from the beginning? Yes. this is the controversy that needs to be explored, this is Child labor, Another perspective.

Scene 2:

Inside of a workshop. Mechanics doing their job, close up + commentary

We are inside of a workshop in an elite area of this city, here we find kids working on cars, some scattered parts around the shop, some benches where the workers sit, cables and a lot of tools.

Apparently, it looks like a tough job. If we look into it though, the people are skilled, they are doing a job that we as slightly privileged can not do. This Shop belongs to Fiaz & Ramzan Who are cousins and came to Lahore from a small village in northern Punjab. They learnt this skill like these young boys who are working right now under their supervision, Let's talk to them and learn about their experience.

Scene 3:

Office of the owner of the shop, short interview + questions to be asked

Questions :

  • How did you learn this job ?

  • Why did you leave your education to pursue this?

  • How many people are working in your workshops?

  • Does this workshop fulfill their needs monetarily?

  • It is personal though, but how much do you earn in a month?

  • How do you teach these children to work?

Scene 4:

Interview with working mechanics, especially young ones + questions to be asked.

Questions

  • How old are you?

  • Who sent you here?

  • How long do you have to work here?

  • How tough is this job?

  • What do you think about the atmosphere of this place?

  • Do you want to go to school?

Scene 5:

Office of another workshop, The owner is educated, left a good job to establish workshop + questions for interview.

We left the old workshop after having a very interesting conversation with the workers, and then we headed towards the second workshop that belongs to () Who is a well educated person, he did his masters in business administration and had a good place in a travelling company in Lahore, but he decided to leave the job and open this shop. Let's talk to him about some things.

Questions :

  • Sir, tell us about your education first.

  • Why did you decide to open this workshop ? Since it is obviously not that clean of a business.

  • Do you think that you are helping the society through this workshop?

  • Do you not think that they should start learning this after their education has been completed.

  • How helpful can education be for a motor mechanic like yourself?

  • What are your suggestions to improve the condition of their workplace?

I still had to write the conclusion, but I thought to do that after my shoot was done because the interviews can change the conclusion.
