Magazines are a form of media. These area type of short books that provide information about certain topics and things that matter in the current times. This blog is about the history, about how magazines developed to the way they are now.
In 1663, German theologian and poet Johann Rist made a periodical that was named as Erbauliche Monaths-Unterredungen ("Edifying Monthly Discussions"). It was a monthly pamphlet that used to discuss the issues as well as the important things that happened in the past month.
The first magazine ever was made by an English person named Edward Cave. This magazine was was made in 1731 and it was mentioned as "Gentleman's Magazine". The word magazine however was also invented by that person, it was identified as a periodical back then. The origin of the word magazine came from the Arabic word 'makhazin' which literally meant storehouse. Cave wanted to make something that the general public would be interested in reading.
After that, Magazines became a popular form of media texts in the 18000's. The oldest magazine that was the longest in production is 'The illustrated London news', first published in 1842 and ceased publication in 2003.
Another major advancement in media was when colored publications were being published. Although the standard black and white publications began in the 1600's but colored printing did not start until the late 19th century.
Color photography appeared in magazines first in the 1890's but the major color printing came in 1910 along with some major advancements in technology.
These magazines had revolutionary printing quality and colors. people were amazed to see these and magazines blew up after that.
Nowadays, there are a lot of categories in magazine printing. too much to even list here.
That pretty much sums up my research about magazines. This is an extreme change from the 19th century to the 21st century.
