When a person decides to design a magazine cover, there are certain elements that he has to consider that go into the making of the cover of the magazine.
They are :
Masthead
This is a very important part of any magazine since it is the name / branding of the magazine itself, most of them are written in a big bold font that is easily readable on top of a picture.
Photography
This is the background of the text on the cover page. Usually consisting of an illustration or a picture of a person (see blog cover pages for more). Usually a person who's article might be published.
Typography, Headlines
As the title suggests, these are the headlines on the magazine, usually giving a slight hint to a certain part of the magazine so that readers might be interested in it.
Color
This is the color scheme of the magazine, designers tend to keep this simple. Using the colors, designers can convey the overall aesthetic and the mood of the magazine.
Consistency
Although this seems like an unimportant factor, consistency in magazines is a good thing, if the magazine designer know that their design is working, they should stick to the design. Magazines like Vogue stick to a certain design in every cover.
